kick something that means something...



i still bump this album. when it was finally released in 2001, after being shelved for nearly a decade due to the controversial cover art and Five-percenter rhetoric, my world kinda changed.

i'm almost grateful that the album was shelved for so long. i'm pretty sure that 10 year old me from 1993 wouldn't have appreciated the subject matter let alone the social commentary. 18 year old me from 2001 was just mature enough to understand that in a post 9/11 world, muslim MCs had something to say-- ...i ain't black, i ain't white...

Mr. Hood was a solid album-- especially since at the time (back in '91) it was so contemporaneous. But Black Bastards was like... what it feels like to dig through old records... press play, listen... dusty.
